AHS has not completed a significant referendum-funded facilities project in 25 years. Constructing a new high school will allow AHS to avoid significant capital maintenance costs ($143 million over the next 25 years). The proposed $1.9 million operating referendum would increase property taxes by approximately $2 for every $100,000 of assessed home value. This temporary, four-year measure is necessary to maintain essential school services, attract and retain qualified staff, and keep pace with rising costs. The new high school project is estimated to cost $261.2 million. This would result in an estimated tax increase of $191 per $100,000 of property value.
