In 2015, the state legislature passed legislation that requires high school students to pass a civics test identical to the naturalization test in order to graduate from high school. Arrowhead High School administers this state required test to all freshmen during First Semester exam week in their social studies classes. AP Human Geography students will take during the first week of second semester.
The state of Wisconsin requires that students pass the assessment by correctly answering at least 65 questions out of 100. On the Arrowhead Transcript, a notation is included indicating that they have met the graduation requirement with a “P.” The specific score is not recorded on the transcript.
The test is electronic (taken on a laptop) and multiple choice. Students will know upon completion if they have passed. Students can retake the assessment as many times as needed in order to pass--per state statute.
The review materials and the test can be found on our content management system called Canvas. They will be invited to join the course named “Civics--class of 20--” Students need to accept that invitation in order for the school to have a record of their taking it.
To prepare for the assessment, students can use the linked review materials located in the Canvas class “Civics--class of 20--”. The naturalization test is online and students can view the questions by going to http://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/naturalization-test.
If you have any questions regarding the Civics assessment, please contact your student’s social studies teacher or feel free to contact:
