MSOE SCIENCE COMPETITION:
Involves 8 or 16 students (Juniors and Seniors) who compete in the areas of general science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Competition is with other schools in Southeast Wisconsin and Northeast Illinois.
Students are invited through their participation in advanced placement Biology, Chemistry and Physics, general Physics and general Chemistry.
Students have study groups approximately once per week up until the time of the competition.
The competition is held on the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week at MSOE
Individual and team trophies can be won.
PHYSICS OLYMPIAD
Held in mid-March at Arrowhead High School.
Individual competition on Physics topics.
Involves students in AP Physics (usually Juniors and Seniors)
There are three qualifying tests to get on the Physics Olympiad team. Arrowhead has had students advance to the second round three years in a row.
This is a national competition.
SCIENCE BOWL
Held in early February at MSOE.
Competition is with other schools in Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
Students are invited based on participation in Advanced Placement Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Competition is in a game-like format where students buzz in to give an answer. Topics include all science areas, math and computers.
The first place team goes on to nationals in Washington D.C. in May. (AHS went in 2000 & 2003)
PHYSICS BOWL
Held at Arrowhead High School in April.
Usually 25 students from general Physics and AP Physics.
Multiple choice format.
Top award is $1000 for the school. Individual scholarships can also be earned. Students may also win t-shirts if their team places first or second in their region. (AHS has won first in their region since 1999)
TEAMS (FORMERLY JETS) ENGINEERING COMPETITION
(Held based on student interest)
Involves 8 or 16 students (Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors) who work as a team on the entire event.
Competition is with other schools in Southeast Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
Students are invited based on their participation in Advanced Placement Biology, Chemistry and Physics, general Physics and Chemistry.
Engineering questions are posted approximately two months prior to the competition. Students are asked to research and prepare on their topic. Once captains are decided on, study groups meet once per week to prepare for the competition.
There are awards at local and national levels
