Jim La Voi Bergman

Jim was a 3 sport student athlete at Arrowhead graduating in 1989 participating as a Varsity letter winner in football, basketball and track and field. Jim earned 6 Varsity letters and served multiple times as a team captain. Jim went on to compete at Carroll University in football and basketball where he earned 4 Varsity letters in football and 2 Varsity letters in basketball.
Jimbo’s love of Arrowhead High School as a student and an accomplished athlete grew to new and amazing levels when he started coaching in 1992 as an assistant boys’ basketball coach, and then as an assistant football coach in 1993. He also served as an assistant track and field coach for 6 years coaching the shot and discus. In total, Jimbo has served as an assistant Varsity coach for over 65 seasons from 1992 to the present. Jimbo has been a critical part of over 300 wins in football and over 500 wins in basketball. He has served as an assistant coach on 7 Arrowhead football and basketball WIAA State Championship teams, and 10 WIAA State Championship 2nd place teams in both football and basketball.
Coaching Honors Football Assistant Varsity Coach on 13 teams that played in the WIAA State Championship games. This included State Championships in 1993, 1994, 1996, 2007, 2012 and 2013 and WIAA State Runner-up teams in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2015 2018 earned the Classic 8 Assistant Football Coach of the Year 2021 Initiated the Annual Jim LaVoi “Jimbo” Award for the Assistant Coach of the Year
Coaching Honors Basketball Assistant Varsity Coach for the 2010 WIAA State Championship team Assistant Varsity Coach for WIAA State Runner-up teams in 2017, 2023, and 2024 2021 earned the Classic 8 Conference Assistant Coach of the Year Arrowhead Athletic Hall of Fame Induction in the Class of 2024
Jimbo personifies the spirit of the “University of Arrowhead”. He lives and breathes Arrowhead High School and everything Arrowhead can offer to any and all students and athletes. He has dedicated his life to raising his daughters Abby and Emma, and working hard to help Arrowhead athletics to be at our best. To that end, Jimbo has served as the informal fund raising agent for Arrowhead athletics. Since starting as an assistant coach in 1992, he has volunteered in raising millions of dollars to go directly to serve the financial needs of Arrowhead athletics that could not be covered through tax dollar expenditures. Jimbo has refreshingly been straightforward and direct about what is needed to continue to build success through athletic fund raising
