Dave Lodes Ph.D. was the most dynamic leader at the most critical time in Arrowhead High School’s history. Dave served as a science teacher, track coach, Dean of Students, Principal and Superintendent at a time when Arrowhead High School grew rapidly from being a medium-sized high school to becoming one of the largest high schools in the State of Wisconsin. Curriculum as well as sport and extracurricular activities grew to unimaginable levels of participation with expectations to have high levels of performance.
Dave had a vision that Arrowhead High School could be a comprehensive school that could provide opportunities where we could offer “Something for Everyone”. He knew we could hire and support teachers, coaches, and staff in every capacity, and then we could all work together to achieve excellence. He dedicated every day to build an environment where we could all succeed as we served the needs of our Arrowhead High School families.
Under Dave’s leadership and vision:
Arrowhead Union High School became a school of national reputation for academic, athletic and co-curricular excellence.
According to Newsweek Magazine in the Spring of 2008, Arrowhead High School placed in the top 5% of public schools in the United States.
Arrowhead offered the most extensive number of extracurricular programs in the State of Wisconsin. On average, students participated in 2.3 sports and activities from a wide range of opportunities.
Athletically, Arrowhead was honored in 2005 and 2008 by Sports Illustrated, being selected as one of the elite high school athletic programs in America and #1 in Wisconsin. The Sports Illustrated criteria emphasized all-round excellence during the prior 10 years and included state titles won and college athletes produced.
Athletically, Arrowhead was selected by the WSN Cup as the number one program in state level competition in Wisconsin 13 times for the large school division and 11 times overall for the 15 years the award has been given.
