Tom Robertson
Athlete-Baseball
Tom graduated from Arrowhead in 1975 as a highly gifted athlete receiving 4 Varsity letters in tennis, 2 in football, and 2 in baseball. Tom’s best sport was baseball and he was the true team leader that led us to the Scenic Moraine Conference Championship in 1975 along with winning the Regional and Sectional that allowed us to advance to the WIAA State tournament. He pitched us to a win in our first game at state, and then with only one day’s rest, he received only his second loss of the season as we were defeated by Brown Deer for the WIAA State Championship.
In 1975 Tom was named the Player of the Year in Waukesha County, Player of the Year in the Scenic Moraine Conference, First Team All-Conference with a unanimous vote, and Second Team All State. Tom’s pitching record was 13-2 with a 1.11 ERA and he allowed only 52 hits in 88 innings pitched while walking only 28. He batted .391 and led us with 21 RBI. Tom’s 13 wins in a single season is a record number of wins for a pitcher at Arrowhead High School. This record will never be broken due to the number of pitches that a pitcher is now allowed to throw. During his Junior season, Tom had a record of 8-3. His total of 21 wins is a career record for pitchers at Arrowhead and that record he has held for the past 49 years.
After college, Tom pursued his love of coaching tennis by becoming the Director of Tennis and the head Tennis Professional at the Potomac Tennis Club in Maryland. The club was owned by renowned Sports Agent Donald Dell and tennis legends Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, and Illie Nastase. The pinnacle of Tom’s coaching career took place at the Potomac Tennis Club when Tom’s tennis idol, Jimmy Connors, came to the club for practice. Connors hitting partner came late so Tom filled in against Connors. Tom did win two points during the entire set against his idol.
Tom now lives in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee with his wonderful wife of 29 years, Eunice.
